Building a Film Community in Onitsha – A Dream Worth Every Kobo

Building a Film Community in Onitsha – A Dream Worth Every Kobo

Last weekend, I spent what—by my financial standards—is a pretty huge sum on something many might not fully understand.

I spent money on the young people of Onitsha.

Not on parties or fancy billboards, but on opportunity—on giving them a chance to act, to be seen, to dream out loud, and to show the world that their stories matter.

I didn’t take center stage. I stood at the sidelines and watched.

And what I saw moved me:
The passion.
The excitement.
The nervous energy that filled the air.

And because of that, I chose to overlook every flaw, every slip of tongue, every missed cue. Because this wasn’t about perfection. It was about presence. It was about planting a seed.

Opening a Door—Even Just a Crack

This wasn’t about recreating Love in Every Word. No.

This was about cracking a door open—even if just slightly—for young dreamers in Onitsha who’ve been knocking for way too long.

Now, they can say, “I’ve acted before. I’ve done this. And I have proof.”

To some, it may not sound like much.
But to me?
That statement is a whole revolution.

A New Chapter Begins

A chapter is opening. Quietly. But surely.

A seed has been planted. And just like every nursery, it will need time. Six months. Maybe five years.

But I’m here.
I’ll wait.
I’ll water the soil.

Because what we’re creating here isn’t just a performance. It’s a platform. It’s the nursery of filmmaking in Onitsha.

And we’ve already started baptizing them into this world. A world of cinema, of storytelling, of belief in themselves.

From here on, the only direction left is upward.

From Whispers to Echoes

One day, the world will hear the statement we’re making now in whispers.

And when they do, they’ll trace it back to this moment—to this small beginning that refused to be ignored.

Because no investment in people is ever wasted.
Even when profit doesn’t show.
Even when the spotlight is off.
Even when the world isn’t watching.

The Value We’re Creating

What we’re building here carries its own kind of value:

  • Friendships that will outlive this project

  • Stories that will echo for decades

  • And the quiet joy of chasing a dream while it still breathes

We’ve started the ride.
The roller coaster has taken off.
There’s no stopping us now.

This Feels Right

I feel emotional about Building a Film Community in Onitsha—more than words can fully express.

And maybe—just maybe—I can finally say to myself, “You’re on the right track. You’re making people’s dreams come true.”
