Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, attended the Mid Year Worship service at Dunamis International Gospel Centre Abuja.
The whole church erupted immediately they announced the presence of the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter. A 100,000-capacity church erupted with thundering noise and not a single soul was seen sitting down — complete pandemonium.
The video has been making rounds on the internet and it has stirred up a lot of reactions from the Obidients — Obi supporters — it has given them a new reason to believe that it’s possible.
What Detractors And Members Of The Opposition Say
Before now, detractors and opposition of Mr. Peter Obi have trolled him with being a Social media president. Even the former Vice President and also the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar didn’t hesitate to highlight that the movement ends on social media saying that 90% of Northerners don’t have access to the internet.
Why would about 100,000 Dunamites react that way about Peter Obi? The reaction wouldn’t have been different if it were any other church in Nigeria. And the question is: why is it so? Why of all the presidential candidates for the 2023 general election, does Mr. Peter Obi have the most clout?
The Yearn For Hope
After 7 years of disastrous rule by Buhari led administration, millions Nigerians, old or young, have nothing but hope to hang on to. Nigerians hope that one day we will get it right. They hope that one day they will leave their houses without remembering to say the grace and still feel safe from menace of terrorism and banditry. The citizens hope that their sacrifices will be worth something someday.
Of all the Presidential candidates contesting for the highest office in the country, Mr. Peter Obi is the embodiment and the voice of this hope.
President Barack Obama said,
“Hope is not blind optimism. It’s not ignoring the enormity of the task ahead or the roadblocks that stand in our path. It’s not sitting on the sidelines or shirking from a fight. Hope is that thing inside us that insists, despite all evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us if we have the courage to reach for it, and to work for it, and to fight for it. Hope is the belief that destiny will not be written for us, but by us, by the men and women who are not content to settle for the world as it is, who have the courage to remake the world as it should be.”
Obidients are not ignorant of the odds against them or the obstacles and roadblocks ahead. Nevertheless, they’ve dared to hope, and believe that it’s POssible. Nothing reinforces this fact more than a hundred thousand people cheering on Mr. Peter Obi in Dunamis International Gospel Centre yesterday.
Mr Peter Obi is right. The people are indeed the structure. And irrespective of what happens in 2023, every believer of this movement should be proud of their audacity to hope for a Nigeria that works.
